Internal Medicine Physicians Internists provide a wide range of nonsurgical health care services, including physical examinations, preventive screenings and medicine services, treatment of acute problems along with monitoring and treatment of chronic diseases. Internists provide referrals to surgical specialists when appropriately needed.
Treatments/Service Provided
The General Internal Medicine division provides the continuity and coordination of care of the whole patient, we also provide age appropriate screening, diagnosing and treatment of Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Disease, Cancer, Depression, and Hyperlipidemia. We treat the whole patient by addressing all body system needs and our care team is made up of Physicians.
Internal medicine generally falls into these nine recognized subspecialties: cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, oncology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, hematology, rheumatology, and infectious disease:
Cardiology; the emphasis is on the prevention of, early diagnosis, and most current treatment of various forms of cardiovascular disease. This includes adult congenital cardiac disease, diseases involving the cardiac muscle (cardiomyopathies), ischemic coronary artery disease, and disease involving the electrical system of the heart.
Dermatology; The emphasis is on full skin exams, benign tumors of the skin, dysplastic nevi, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, dermatitis (atopic and contact), viral and drug eruptions, autoimmune disorders and their skin manifestations, diseases of hair and nails, bacterial and fungal skin infections, skin manifestations of systemic/venereal diseases.
Diabetes and Endocrinology; the emphasis is on blood glucose management of the patient with diabetes, treatment of hypoglycemia, and hyperglycemic crises such as diabetic ketoacidosis.
Gastroenterology; the emphasis is on diseases of the digestive tract, liver, biliary tract and pancreas, diagnosis and treatment of swallowing disorders.
Infectious Disease; the emphasis is on treatment and/or prevention of infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, the infections may involve the lungs (pneumonia), blood (bacteremia), urinary tract, skin (cellulitis), bone (osteomyelitis), central nervous system (meningitis or encephalitis), intestine (colitis) or other sites.
